Robin Padilla calls for unity

Robin Padilla is urging for speedier resolution concerning the dire situation in Zamboanga where recent clashes between the Philippine government and members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have led to the displacement of thousands of Filipinos.

The actor visited Zamboanga City over the weekend to make his presence felt among evacuees, most of whom are Muslims.

Padilla went on to call for unity among Filipinos, which he said could only be instrumental in forging lasting peace in the region.

He insists that the matter shouldn’t be made an issue about religion.

Padilla converted to Islam following his incarcerations some years ago due to illegal possession of firearms. He has been quite vocal in his effort to uplift his Muslim brethren that led him to sojourn in faraway Basilan and Jolo.

Prior, Padilla has put up a school for Muslim children in Quezon City.

Lawyer files case against Freddie Aguilar

MANILA – Lawyer Fernando Perito has filed with Quezon City Prosecutor’s office a case against musician Fredie Aguilar, following the latter’s revelation that his current girlfriend is only 17 years old.

In a two-page complaint, Perito alleged that Aguilar, being a popular figure, had taken advantage of the girl’s infatuation with him.

Under Article 337 of the Revised Penal Code, qualified seduction is defined as “the seduction of a virgin over 12 years and under 18 years of age, committed by any person in public authority, priest, home-servant, domestic, guardian, teacher, or any person who, in any capacity, shall be entrusted with the education or custody of the woman seduced.”

A defiant Aguilar insists that there is no basis for the charges filed against him.

Perito is the same lawyer who sought to cite the House prosecution team for contempt during the impeachment trial of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona. He also sought the disbarment of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. Notably, none of these cases prospered.

Ai Ai delas Alas not yet ready for new love

MANILA – Comedian Ai Ai delas Alas is not eager to hurry love, saying she is not ready “emotionally.”

Apparently delas Alas is still hurting from her breakup with ex-husband Jed Salang, whom she has hauled to court for alleged physical and emotional abuse. She insists however that she is slowly regaining her confidence.

She denied rumors linking her to actor-TV host Lui Villaruz, ex-boyfriend of actress Angel Aquino. Although she admits that she is communicating with Villaruz regularly, delas Alas said there’s nothing romantic about it.

She went on to insist that Villaruz is just a good friend, nothing more, nothing less.

At the moment, delas Alas says she simply wants to be “alone.” She plans to travel by herself in the near future. Among places she wants to visit includes Italy, Taipei, Vietnam and Bali, Indonesia.

Pinoy band wins in int’l jazz and blues fest

MANILA – Bleu Rascals, a Filipino band composed of three college students, bested over a hundred other performers from around the world to win the grand plum at the Cotai International Jazz & Blues Festival held in Macau in October 11 to 13.

Band leader Paul Leobrera, bassist Oliver Salaysay, and drummer John Garcia were pleasantly surprised with the win, which came a year after the band was rejected by the same festival.

They are hoping that the accolade will bring them more work in the near future.

Angel Locsin confirms breakup with Phil Younghusband

Actress Angel Locsin has confirmed via Twitter that she and football player Phil Younghusband have ended their relationship.

Locsin maintained that the breakup was a mutual decision. She wasn’t keen, however, to divulge the reason for the split.

But if anything, she was only too eager to extend her appreciation to people who supported their relationship.

Locsin and Younghusband officially became a couple in May of last year, following a year-long romance that started with a simple tweet from Younghusband asking the actress out for a date.

Prior, the ex-couple had admitted to discussing wedding plans. Younghusband at one point even insisted that Locsin is “the one.”

Locsin, for her part, expressed happiness and contentment with their relationship but maintained that she wasn’t ready for marriage as yet.

Rumors of the couple’s separation surfaced on Monday, with fans noting the seeming coldness between the two as observed via their social networking sites.

Rhian Ramos celebrates birthday

Recently celebrating her 23rd birthday is Rhian Ramos.

In what has become a yearly tradition of sorts, the actress once again celebrated the milestone with ailing children.

Last October 18, it was the turn of the patients of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) to share her joy.

According to Ramos, she simply wanted to have fun with the children whom she said occupy a soft spot in her heart.

Prior, Ramos celebrates her birthday with Child Haus, an organization that takes care of cancer-stricken children.

She explained that she continues to support Child Haus only that she wants to spread the love with children of PCMC.

Asked if boyfriend KC Montero gave her a gift on her birthday, Ramos admitted that the former MTV VJ as with the cast and crew of her new TV series “Genesis” gave her a surprise bash at a karaoke bar where they had a nightlong singing session.
