OWWA rebate ‘most likely’ in the second half of 2017 – Cacdac

by

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said it expects to finally start implementing the rebate system for overseas Filipinos in the second half of the year, OWWA chief, Hans Leo J. Cacdac said.

“Magbigibay po tayo ng rebate program most likely in the second half the year. So, matutuloy po ang rebate. Kaunting pasensya lang po. Nagbibigay po tayo ng konting panahon para sa rebate (computations),” Cacdac said in a video posted on his Facebook page.

Cacdac explained that the law requires OWWA to hire a specialist who would compute the amount in rebate that can be released to an OFWs. “Nakapag-hire po tayo ng dalubhasa na magko-compute ng halaga ng rebate na kakayanin ng Ph19.4 billion na kabuuang pondo ng OWWA sa ngayon,” the official said.

The OWWA rebate system is mandated under Chapter 14 Section 54 of the law creating OWWA – Republic Act 10801. Covered are OFWs who have continuously paid membership dues but hadn’t availed of any OWWA programs consistently for the past 10 years, including their relatives.

The ongoing actuarial study seeks to establish how many of the estimated 2.4 million Filipinos working abroad are eligible and how much can actually be given to them.
