Couple jailed in Dubai for kissing in bathroom

by

A couple has been sentenced one-month imprisonment after they were caught kissing in a bathroom.

According to Gulf News, the Egyptian man and Moroccan woman, both unidentified, spent more than 10 minutes in the ladies’ restroom of a petrol station, which sparked suspicion from the staff.

The staff alerted the manager of the station who saw the couple hugging and kissing. He immediately alerted the police of what happened.

The couple were accused of violating public decency. Prosecutors also say the woman had drank alcohol and that the man cross-dressed and pretended to be a woman so he can get in the restroom.

But according to the man, he had to pick up the woman to drive her home but the latter became ill while they were on their way. He said they had to stop at a public bathroom.

The court, however, maintained the punishment for the two. They will spend a month in prison while the woman will be fined of Dh2,000 for drinking alcohol. The man was cleared of cross-dressing accusations.

UAE, of which Dubai is one of the seven Sheikhdoms, is a conservative country and forbids display of public affection.
