Speed up case against Robredo, Marcos asks SC

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos has asked the Supreme Court to speed up the case proceedings in the election protest he filed against Vice President Leni Robredo.

In a 7-page Ex-Parte Motion, Marcos asked the SC, who serves as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to appoint at least three officers who will help the tribunal during the preliminary conference.

These officers will “better facilitate an orderly, simplified, and expeditious disposition of the electoral contest considering that there are three causes of action raise in this election protest,” Marcos’ counsel George Erwin Garcia said in a report.

Marcos petitioned about the Automated Election System that used Smartmatic’s vote counting machines, which, according to Marcos, are anomalous.

He also complained about alleged cheating in the recent elections, like pre-shading of ballots, vote buying, intimidation and failure of elections.

The former senator asked to reopen the ballot boxes from 36,465 clustered precincts in different provinces.

Marcos earlier paid P36 million to the Supreme Court as first installment of the fee for his protest.

Robredo, for her part, has payed P8 million for her counter protest.
