Beware of fake messages asking donations on Ramadan, police says

by

The Dubai Police has warned citizens against fake messages asking for donations for prisoners, widows, and orphans during Ramadan.

These messages on Whatsapp and social media can give the impression that they are coming from charities facilitating such donations, but the police noted that these are fake.

These are all fake, however. Contact numbers are mentioned on these messages, but most of them are closed,” said Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Department Affairs.

He also warned that many of these messages are sent directly to women whose husbands are in prison. The messages promise that they will give assistance to their loved ones in jail.

Such women are told to send a copy of the court decision having the details of their husband, which can be used in forgery of documents.

Citizens who will receive these fake messages are advised not to reply or share it and to give donations to charities approved by the state instead.
