Philippines wins 2013 Ms International: Only country that bags titles in the top 5 international beauty competitions

Joining the growing list of Filipina beauty queens this year is Bea Rose Santiago who was crowned Miss International 2013 in Tokyo, Japan. She reigned against 60 candidates from around the world who paraded at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hall on Tuesday.

Placing second is Miss Netherlands Nathalie den Dekker followed by Miss New Zealand Casey Radley. Rounding out the top five are Miss Hungary Brigitta Ötvős and Miss Colombia Lorena Hermida.

During the question and answer portion, the top five finalists were asked what they would do if they win the Miss International pageant, Santiago said: “The whole world saw how my country suffered. One by one, other countries helped. You have opened my heart and eyes on what we can do to help each other. I will work to sustain the spirit of sympathy and spirit of hope. As long as we work together, there is hope.”

The Filipina beauty is declared the 53rd Miss International. She is the fifth Filipino to have won the crown, after Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005, Melanie Marquez in 1979, Aurora Pijuan in 1970, and Gemma Cruz in 1964.
