During a high-level meeting at Malacañang, President Rodrigo Duterte’s Cabinet has approved the creation of a “unique” Identification Card System for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The ID system for Filipino expats was approved “with conditions” and will provide overseas workers easy access to private and government transactions, Business World Online quoted Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto C. Abella as saying.
Such transactions, Abella reportedly said, include access to records with government agencies, debit card for the planned OFW bank, and beep card for railway travel.
The government’s planned bank for OFWs, which was promised by Mr. Duterte during his presidential campaign, is targeted to be operational by Sept. 1, 2017, pending the necessary regulatory approvals, said the news portal.
