Overseas Filipinos (OFs)’ patience is being tested when dealing with unstable connection and choppy video calls while talking to their families back home.

This is because the Philippines has the slowest Internet speed in the Pacific, a survey by Akamai, an Internet monitoring firm, showed.
According to Akamai’s report, the average connection speed in the Philippines is 4.5 Mbps, which is just slightly higher than the slowest speed of 4 Mbps in Asian nations.

South Korea emerged as the country with the fastest average Internet speed in the world with 29.0 Mbps, beating Switzerland’s 21.2 Mbps, Denmark’s 20.7 Mbps, Finland’s 20.6 Mbps, and Singapore’s 20.2 Mbps.

Despite the Philippines’ disappointing showing, the firm foresees development in the country’s Internet system.

“As noted in the Third Quarter, 2017 State of the Internet Report, the new administration has made faster Internet speeds as a priority. The government announced plans to cut red tape for cell tower building, deploy free nationwide broadband and Wi-Fi,” Akamai said.
The report added the United Arab Emirates posted an average Internet speed of 10.7 Mbps.
